Pre-K - 8 Assemblies

Mr. LandTM, educates, entertains and inspires school-aged children with environmental presentations he calls his Earth Talks With KidsTM. Mr. Land’s outreach is based around content from his interviews with Apollo Astronauts and his award-winning environmental children’s book, Sofia’s Dream published by, Little Pickle Press in November 2010.

Since the publication of, Sofia's Dream, his interest in statements by astronauts hasn’t stopped. He has found that generations born after the Apollo program are in need of more content to fully understand the significance of the insights and knowledge about protecting Earth that Apollo astronauts brought back to the world after their experience of seeing Earth from afar.

In his assemblies he combines hands-on activities, music, storytelling and slide shows all around the theme of teaching environmental stewardship. He uses exciting props, calls on volunteers and invites lots of participation. Mr. Land wants to awaken in young people the desire to demand what is rightfully theirs... clean water, land, and air.

"When Land came to my third grade classroom, students were literally at the edge of their seats while he was reading his stories and sharing his passion for the environment. Sofia’s Dream and The Gift of Poo were both enormous hits in Room 10. Land’s visit was a great opportunity to raise awareness of important environmental issues in an age appropriate way."

"I want to thank you for taking the time to come to Reed School and share your beautiful book, "Sofia's Dream," with my 2nd grade class. The message about protecting our earth was really powerful and I think these letters demonstrate the impact you had on my students. Letter writing is one of the 2nd grade standards and these are some of the best letters I have seen my class write. Thank you for leaving such an impression on my students. I hope to see you again in the future at Reed School. Wishing you all the best with your book and future books."

~Jolene Egan, Teacher, Reed School, Tiburon, CA

"Land Wilson's presentation of Sofia's Dream (it was much more than a 'reading'!) was a perfect addition to the Children's Enchanted Forest at Santa Barbara's 2011 Earth Day celebration. Mr. Wilson did a beautiful job of interacting with the children and bringing them into not only the story of Sophia's Dream, but the greater message that it embraces. With shouts of "We are powerful!" the children learned the joy of how one person, of any age, can truly make a difference by picking up just one piece of trash. My children, Olivia and Charlie, five years old, still randomly repeat how powerful they are and how they can make a difference, proving to me just how effectively Mr. Wilson reached his audience. I hope he will join us again next year."

"Fabulous hands-on and interactive experience! Hope we can have more!"  ~Ruth Nenaber, Director, Manzanita Children’s Center, Marin City, CA
